La Tortuga Feliz is a non-profit marine conservation program on the caribbean side of Costa Rica. It is located on a half island at the coast near the rivermouth of Pacuare River in Bataan. The aim of the project is to protect sea turtles, their eggs and offspring and help to raise the numbers of sea turtles in this world. Sea turtles are still poached for their eggs, meat and/or shells and are critically endangered. Beach Erosion is another reason for declining numbers of sea turtles.
